On the Bias of Cronbach Alpha

Abstract

Cronbach alpha is the"standard"reliability measure on measurement in classical testing theory. In this talk, we will discuss the magnitude of its bias when the difficulty levels of all test items are not identical. Moreover, we will use this reliability measure to illustrate a few problems in current high school achievement when the responses of test items can be described by Rasch model.
