Abstract
Machine-to-machine (M2M) networks are widely discussed these days because of their great potentials in transportation, healthcare, and many other areas. However, feasibilities of all M2M applications are based on an assumption that the machines are intelligent enough to respond promptly, reliably, and automatically, which is not a sure thing, especially when big amount of sensor data are flooded into M2M systems. In this talk, I would first talk about the M2M technologies developed at INTEL-NTU Connected Context Computing Center. Secondly, the challenges and solutions to big data issues will be emphasized. Finally, I would like to discuss the possible synergies between statisticians and engineers on this topic, and provide my perspective of future M2M technologies.
