Abstract

George Box, October 18, 1919 – March 28, 2013, was a most influential statistician in the second half of the 20th Century. His work covered a huge spectrum of statistical topics in theory, methods and application. In this Tribute, I will begin with his work in the British Army on Gas experiments during World War II that ?firmed his views on the role of statistics in scientific investigations and ?the development of statistical methods, and focus on his contributions to inference, robustness, Bayes, time series analysis, quality/productivity and the design of experiments, and statistical education. I will conclude with his burial that I attended. ?
