Abstract

The group formation process of social animals is of basic importance in Biology.? Many models have been proposed in order to gain an understanding of this process.? A recent one - which is called the extra clustering model - uses genetic relatedness as the key factor that drives the dynamics of the process. It was proposed by Durand, Blum and Francois (2007) and a preliminary analysis of some of its properties was given by Durand and Francois (2010). In this talk, we discuss our recent detailed analysis of the extra clustering model which led to a complete characterization of its limit laws.? The result in a special case of the model - which is called the neutral model - is of particular interest from a mathematical point of view. This talk is based on joint work with Michael Drmota (Technical University of Vienna) and my former master student Yi-Wen Lee.
