Abstract

Statistics plays an important role in the semiconductor manufacturing industry. The semiconductor manufacturing is full of complex and sophisticated processes, which entails an exorbitant amount of data generated by, and not exclusively, manufacturing tools, physical check images, and electrical testing results. How to define predictive analytic models, optimize tool monitor index and define outliers from healthy populations require dedicated statistician support. In the seminar, I will explain why semiconductor manufacturing welcomes and values statistician expertise, discuss several examples and future challenges. Moving forward to face ever more challenges with advanced technologies, accompanied an even more astronomical volume of database sets, statistics theory in conjunction with other skills (machine learning, Python, R, Matlab) will be very popular for those wanting a career in the semiconductor industry.
