Abstract

Several emerging and re-emerging pathogens, such as COVID-19, Influenza, Enterovirus, and Dengue, has resulted in epidemic outbreak and/or global pandemic. Bioinformatics, biostatistics, and big data analyses play the essential role in continuous surveillance, rapid diagnosis, and real-time tracking of emerging infectious diseases. By these powerful surveillance and analytic tools, which enables not only to reveal the pathogen genome sequences, epidemiology spread area, but also to provides insights for dissection of the host-pathogen interaction. In today’s lecture, I will utilize the COVID-19 and Influenza as the examples to demonstrate that the importance and indispensability of bioinformatic tools for countermeasures against emerging infectious diseases, to improve public health and to achieve global One (Human-Animal-Environment) Health.
