Abstract

In this lecture, we will explain the current formats of electronic medical records databases and the application of symbolic data analysis methods. The Chang Gung Research Database (CGRD) from Chang Gung Memorial Hospital will serve as our primary example to illustrate the structure and content of these databases and their utilization in medical research. Additionally, we will introduce the basic concepts of symbolic data analysis and discuss its preliminary applications in our ongoing research project, particularly emphasizing the potential advantages and challenges of these techniques in managing medical data. This lecture aims to provide attendees with a clearer understanding of the CGRD and symbolic data analysis techniques, anticipating that these methodologies might pave new avenues for enhancing medical data analysis capabilities.
